Creating Community
Identity: A Facilitated Guide to Defining Your Mission, Vision and Values
Discover a refreshing
new way to develop your community and create a legacy for future residents!
There is no doubt that establishing mission, vision and values is critical to
the success of your community. In this hands-on, interactive workshop, you will
roll up your sleeves and both learn and practice the process of defining your
community’s mission, vision and values.
This workshop will focus
on developing community by discovering commonalities between neighbors. By
organizing and leveraging these values and attributes into a plan, you will be
able to create a community vision, mission and strategies to facilitate a
well-functioning neighborhood. You'll learn how to bring homeowners together
and get them to build a long-term, common direction for the property. You will
discover the tools to help community leaders focus on the plan and to advance
positive change over the long run. With a plan of this type, you will learn to
attract competent board members and volunteers focused on the overall wellbeing
of community members.
During the first
segment, you will experience two different facilitation methods in action as
you are guided through the process of building a community mission statement.
Professional development trailblazer and learning strategist Aaron Wolowiec
will illuminate the theory and process behind consensus building as you are
guided through the process of building a community vision statement. You will
be able to put your newfound knowledge and skills to work as you serve as
facilitators and guide the group through the process of building a community
values statement.
Large Scale Summit
Resort at Squaw Creek
Olympic Valley, CA (Lake Tahoe Area)
October 12 – 13, 2017
Taking Charge of Living Large
Managing a Large Scale
community is a unique challenge that requires specific knowledge and expertise,
flexibility and a sense of humor. That’s a lot to ask for in a single manager,
but there’s no need to go it alone. At CACM’s first ever Large Scale Summit,
active large scale managers – both those with long experience and those new to
the specialty - will gather for stimulating discussions with peers and subject
matter experts, informative case studies and interactive breakouts based on
attendee driven content. It’s a completely new learning experience for large
scale managers.
You don’t need to
manage 500 units to join us. Large Scale isn’t just about the number of units;
it’s about amenities like club houses, tennis courts and golf courses; services
provided; and staffing and budgets. You may be a large scale manager and not
even realize it!

Keynote: Conversations
That Matter
Speaker: Jessica
Pettitt
Let’s face it; there are
people and topics that at some point are just off limits. Even worse, often it
is a difficult topic that you have to bring up with a difficult person. What if
you could engage in these conversations with more confidence, humor, and ease?
No matter the person or topic, you are your best tool for conversations that
matter. Understanding yourself and others as “differently right” gives you the
tools to intentionally design teams, groups and partnerships that can bring
value to a single project or topic. We are all frustrating to someone, and at
times even to ourselves. Once you know who and how you are, you can reclaim
responsibility for these behavior response patterns and leave room for others
to do the same. Before you know it, you are having better conversations and
fuller relationships with those around you.
Building Bonds for
Better Boards
How you interact with
your board is critical for the overall effectiveness of your community, as well
as your success as a manager. Ideally you are looking for a relationship that
is open and positive. In this interactive session, Jessica Pettitt will guide
us through the process of developing a stronger board through relationship
building. We’ll explore strategies on improving communications with the board
and better understanding and managing board expectations. Jessica also will
provide us with techniques to assist in effectively, and productively, deal
with the conflict that frequently develops in the board environment.
Five Star Service on a
Four Star Budget
Work with your peers to
explore the issues that inhibit you from providing top-notch service in your
community. You’ll have the opportunity to share your service success stories
(and failures) as you work in groups to develop a plan to improve your service
capabilities and establish a culture of true service in your community.
Sustainable Strategies
for Landscape Management
When it comes to
landscaping and amenities, Large Scale communities are not all alike. Even so,
there are some common issues – think water management – that affect most
California properties. In this session, you’ll gain critical insights on how to
develop a long-term landscape strategy that stabilizes your budget while
meeting the expectations of your board and homeowners. You’ll have the
opportunity to explore the latest in landscape maintenance techniques,
irrigation management, landscape design elements and tree care strategies.
